Ice Cream Cones
This page is both interactive and has sensory aspects. The ice cream cones are attached to the page but the ice cream scoops have velcro on the back of them allowing them to be moved. My first step in making this page was to attach the ice cream cones to my background. I made the cones out of corduroy to emulate the texture on a real ice cream cone. After this I cut out ice cream scoop shapes in different colours. Each scoop is made of two pieces of felt so I had to make sure the two scoops were cut to be the same size. Then I sewed velcro to the back of one of the scoops and then sewed any details onto the other side such as the sequence to look like sprinkles. Then I sewed the velcro scoop to the decorated scoop. On side of the velcro was on the ice cream scoop and the other was attached above the ice cream cone where the ice cream scoop would go. I had to make sure the pieces of velcro would line up when I went to put the ice cream scoop on top of my cone. I also had to make sure the velcro on each of the scoops were in the same place so that the scoops could be interchangeable on the cones. This page took a lot of planning and I had to make sure I was thinking through everything I needed to do before sewing. For one of the scoops I attached the two sides of the scoop before sewing the velcro on. This meant that the stitching from attaching the velcro was visible from the front of the scoop. I didn’t love the way this looked so I had to come up with a plan to hide the stitching. I did this by sewing sequence over it which hid it perfectly. I still have one scoop to add to this page but I am still deciding on what flavour to make it.
