Hippo page
After working with some of my materials I decided I needed to go back to the fabric store to get some different materials so I worked on one of my pages that used vegan leather as it had been working well for me. In my busy book I have a page with a hippo on it so I wanted to do the same in this busy book. I have designed the hippo to be interactive with buttons and a tongue in the hippos mouth. My sewing machine has the ability to make button holes but I am still ironing out the details on how to do that so I don’t ruin my work. I cut out the shape of the hippo and attached it onto my background. This day I played around with my sewing machine and found a few new stitches to do. Next I cut out the shape of the hippos mouth and cut and sewed a tongue. I sewed the tongue down and then the mouth on top so that when you open the mouth you can see the hippos tongue. My next step is to add eyes and two buttons as a nose so that the mouth flap can open and close attaching to the buttons. This page focuses on fine motor skills with the opening and closing of the mouth by attaching and detaching the mouth on the buttons.
