Week 4 Reflection
This week some of my classmates went to see the local Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry (PSII). I did not go on the in person tour but watched some videos in class giving me a virtual tour. I really like the idea of this school but I don’t think it would work for everyone. I know for myself I enjoy some more structure than what is found at this school but I loved the idea that students get to take the lead on their learning in relation to what they learn. I think as a future educator there are parts of this schooling structure that I will try to incorporate into my classroom such as giving students some freedom when it comes to projects when I can. As a student I was way more engaged if I was learning about something that was of interest to me which meant that the outcome of my project or what ever the task was in relation to the topic was often better. There was also another guest speaker from another local school district. This guest speaker was from the school district I went to growing up which was interesting to see the teacher side of things as he gave us some insight into technology related things as a practicum student and as a teacher on call. I enjoyed that he shared some of the resources available to us as practicum students as they were things I wouldn’t have known about if he hadn’t told us. He also shared some of the AI platforms the schools in his district choose to use which opened my eyes to platforms I was unaware of. This week I did less work on my open inquiry project as I had a lot of other things going on but I am ahead of schedule on that project anyways so I was not too worried.
