Week 2 Reflection
In the zoom this week we discussed privacy and FIPA. We talked about the fact that the school district has to approve the platforms online that teachers use which makes sense but was something I hadn’t really thought of. The school district has to approve the platform and make sure students privacy is protected. We also discussed the grading platform that schools are able to use such as MyEd, Brightspace and Google Classroom although the only formal way to report grades is through MyEd such as for report cards. It is obviously very important as teachers to keep the privacy of your students but it is also important to teach your students about privacy online especially given how integrated technology is into our lives. I liked the privacy quiz for youth link and I think it is a great child friendly quiz to understand the importance of privacy online. It is important to educate students on how to stay safe online and how to protect their privacy as well as to be cautious of what they post and the fact that they will leave a digital footprint with what they post. This week I started to work on my blog. I added my about me which was shockingly easy to do at the time but now looking back I have no clue how I did it and would likely not be able to repeat it as effortlessly. As soon as I found out we were going to do an open inquiry project I knew exactly what I wanted to do for mine which was a weight lifted off my shoulders as for me the hardest part of a project can be coming up with what it is going to be on. As the class went over how to edit and add to WordPress I was so confused there were so many steps I just couldn’t keep up but that’s okay I knew that I would go and play around with it on my own time to try and find out how it all worked. The link on brightspace that explained how to edit WordPress was helpful to follow. After class this day I spent many hours working on my open inquiry project and had content ready to post for next week.
